So you’ve booked an appointment to get your hair done at Salon Veritas (self-care for the win!), but now what? In all the excitement that comes with going to the salon, you may forget basic hair salon etiquette or aren’t sure if, say, you can go to an appointment with wet hair (see the answer below!). So here, we’ve rounded up some things your hairdresser wishes you knew before coming in. Take notes!—And we look forward to treating you!
Come In With Relatively Clean Hair
While it’s okay for your hair to be somewhat dirty before an appointment (it’s okay if you’ve gone a couple of days without a wash!), if you think your hair is overly dirty, your stylist probably will too. Additionally, if you’re getting your hair colored, having a ton of product built up in it will cause your color to go on unevenly. If you’ve used a lot of product in your hair the days leading up to an appointment, gently wash it with shampoo the night before to provide your hairstylist with a clean slate.
Products Matter
Getting your hair colored is a treat—and you don’t want to ruin it by using the wrong products! We carry a variety of products for both treated and untreated hair to keep you looking your best between appointments. Quality makes a huge difference! Browse our products here or swing by the salon to peruse our offerings.
Is It Okay to Come In With Wet Hair?
Yes and no. If you’re getting a cut, we’ll typically wash your hair for you, but if you’ve already showered and have wet hair then that’s perfectly acceptable. However, if you’re getting your hair colored, you’ll want your hair to be dry so our stylists can best assess your needs and apply the color.
Bring Visuals
If there’s a certain style or color you’re wanting, bring pictures! Showing your stylist exactly what you desire is the best way to achieve it. Bring multiple photos to use as examples and chat with your hairdresser first thing about what your hair goals are.
Don’t Take the Call (Unless It’s Super Important!)
While most hairdressers don’t mind you responding to a quick text during your appointment, taking a long phone call while they’re working their magic on you can be rude and distracting. Unless it’s super important, let the call go to voicemail and chat up your hairdresser instead! We love a good convo to pass the time.????
No, You Can’t Go From Jet Black to Platinum Blonde In One Appointment
It’s important to understand that doing too much to your hair too quickly can cause significant damage—so we won’t be able to take your hair from jet black to platinum blonde in one appointment. Your hair will need to transition from dark to light slowly in order for it to look the best, so be patient and talk to one of hairstylists about how long the process may take beforehand.
The Scoop on Tipping
If you were happy with your appointment and hairdresser, leave a tip! The average recommended tip falls somewhere between 15 and 25 percent of the cost of your service—but if you were blown away, definitely feel free to leave more!
Now That You Know…
We hope that this roundup makes you more prepared and worry-free for you next appointment with us! And if you have any other questions/concerns, feel free to give us a call at 919-821-0108. Now, book that appointment!
